Drone use is prohibited in all Connecticut DEEP-managed state parks and forests (DEEP Bulletin No. 43).
Airspace / Site Context
- 2-mile public beach, Meigs Point Nature Center, and Willard's Island bird sanctuary are within the park
- Shore birds including piping plover (threatened) and least tern nest on the beach June-August
- Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN) Class D airspace is ~10 NM west; Madison area is Class G
Key Rules
- CT DEEP Bulletin 43 bans UAS in all state parks and forests statewide; no permit exception exists for recreational pilots
- Commercial operators may petition for a Special Use Permit but approval is rare near nesting areas
- Violators may be cited under CGS 23-4b and FAA regulations simultaneously
