Landowner Policy & Site Rules

• Drone operations—including launching, landing, or operating on the ground—are strictly prohibited across the Rutland Water park site without formal authorization.
• The reservoir and surrounding park grounds are managed by Anglian Water, who maintains a strict asset and wildlife protection policy across all of their recreational parks.
• Operating a drone from the ground here without explicit prior consent from the management team constitutes trespassing on private utility and conservation land.

Strategic Priority & Infrastructure

• Rutland Water is a Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) asset and one of the largest reservoirs by surface area in the UK.
• The site includes highly sensitive environmental zones, specifically designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Special Protection Area (SPA), and RAMSAR wetland conservation site.
• Due to the high risk of disturbing rare wintering wildfowl and breeding osprey populations, unauthorized activities on the ground are strictly regulated.

Operational Security Protocols

• Active land and perimeter patrols are conducted regularly across the visitor tracks, car parks, and nature reserve banks by park rangers.
• Any unauthorized drone operators identified operating from the ground will be approached, instructed to land immediately, and requested to leave the site.
• Persistent or unsafe operations near public visitor hubs, sailing clubs, or protected bird hides will be escalated to local law enforcement.

Permissions & Exceptions

• Ground permissions are entirely denied for all recreational and hobbyist users.
• Exceptions are strictly reserved for commercial utility inspection, asset management, or authorized scientific research operations.
• Commercial or research pilots must secure written operational consent from Anglian Water Services Ltd well in advance, hold valid CAA operational authorization, and provide proof of comprehensive public liability insurance.
