Drone Rules for São Borja Airport
Critical No-Fly Zone covering João Manoel Airport (SSSB). All unauthorized drone flights are strictly prohibited within this airspace to eliminate collision risks with regional executive aircraft, medical evacuation flights, and agricultural aviation.
João Manoel Airport (SSSB) is strategically located in São Borja, in the western frontier region of Rio Grande do Sul, near the border with Argentina. The airfield primarily serves private executive aviation, government transport, border security missions, and critical emergency medical evacuation (aeromedical) flights. Additionally, due to its location in a highly productive agricultural hub, the surrounding airspace sees frequent, low-altitude operations from agricultural spraying aircraft.
The airport is situated along Avenida Senador Salgado Filho, integrated into São Borja's urban and transport network. Because aircraft execute landing and takeoff procedures at low altitudes directly over transit routes, residential neighborhoods, and nearby rural areas, any uncoordinated drone activity poses an immediate and severe threat to aviation safety. Spontaneous or recreational drone flights within the airfield perimeter or its active traffic patterns are completely banned under federal law (Brazilian Penal Code, Art. 261).
