Drone Rules for FACT CTR: Cape Town International Airport

Cape Town, Western Cape (wc) • South Africa
Matroosfontein, Cape Town, 7490, South Africa
Lat: -33.9689 • Lng: 18.5998
Air Permission required Last updated: May 26, 2026

- Controlled CTR/TMA airspace - ATC authorization required - High aircraft traffic area - SACAA Part 101 compliance mandatory - Flight plans/FUA may be required

Cape Town International Airport forms part of one of the busiest and most complex airspace environments in South Africa. The CTR and surrounding TMA accommodate continuous airline arrivals and departures, cargo aircraft, helicopter traffic, training flights, and occasional military operations. Drone pilots operating near FACT must maintain strict compliance with SACAA Part 101 regulations and should not conduct operations within controlled airspace without prior approval from ATC and the relevant authorities.

Due to terrain, weather conditions, and high aircraft movement frequency, this area presents elevated operational risk for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Operators should maintain heightened situational awareness and avoid any activity that may interfere with manned aviation operations.
