Drone operations at Savannah National Wildlife Refuge require authorization from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Restrictions apply throughout the refuge boundary, including wildlife habitat areas, wetlands, observation sites, trails, and visitor-use areas.

Savannah National Wildlife Refuge Drone Rule

Savannah National Wildlife Refuge is located along the Savannah River and is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The refuge is known for its extensive wetlands, migratory bird habitat, wildlife observation opportunities, scenic driving routes, and protected natural resources.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service regulations prohibit launching, landing, or operating drones within Savannah National Wildlife Refuge unless specifically authorized through an approved permit or official authorization process.

This restriction applies throughout the mapped refuge boundary, including wetlands, wildlife habitat areas, observation platforms, driving routes, trail systems, visitor facilities, protected natural resources, and other refuge-managed property.

Because Savannah National Wildlife Refuge protects sensitive wildlife habitat and serves as an important area for migratory birds, wildlife conservation, photography, and outdoor recreation, pilots should obtain authorization from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service before conducting drone operations within refuge boundaries.
