Praed St, London W2 1NY, UK
Lat: 51.5176 • Lng: -0.174268
Air Permission required Last updated: May 27, 2026

All drone flights are restricted unless authorized by St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Security Management. This 2-nautical-mile zone protects the low-level approach paths of emergency medical HEMS helicopters. Approved operators must coordinate directly with site operations prior to takeoff.

Airspace Requirements

  • All UAS and drone operations within this designated 2-nautical-mile circular boundary are subject to strict prior permission requirements from the site operator.
  • Recreational drone flights are heavily restricted due to the constant, unpredictable nature of emergency Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) transiting the area.

Operational Safety Protocols

  • Commercial or authorized operators must establish direct communication with St George's Hospital security desk or aviation manager before takeoff.
  • Pilots must be prepared to immediately land or yield right-of-way to any incoming or outgoing medical helicopters, maintaining a zero-altitude profile if an aircraft is detected.

Emergency HEMS Priority

  • This restriction zone protects low-altitude flight paths used by Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex and London's Air Ambulance.
  • Absolutely no drone flight may conflict with active medical evacuation or urgent organ transport operations.

Sources

  • Airspace boundaries aligned with official UK NATS aeronautical charts and Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) safety guidance for emergency medical landing sites.
