Drone flights should remain outside the active airport environment due to regular northern aviation traffic and the community’s reliance on air transportation.

Kangiqsujuaq Airport (CYKG) serves the Nunavik community of Kangiqsujuaq and provides an essential connection for passenger travel, freight transport, government services, and medical evacuations. Because road access to other communities is extremely limited, aircraft operations play a critical role throughout the year.

Pilots arriving at the airport may operate at low altitude while following established approach and departure procedures, particularly during periods of reduced visibility or changing Arctic weather conditions. Drone activity near these flight paths can reduce safety margins for crews and passengers.

Transport Canada requires drone operators to avoid creating hazards for manned aircraft and to remain clear of aerodrome operations. This precaution applies to the runway environment, aircraft maneuvering areas, and nearby approach corridors used by aircraft serving the airport.
