Drone Rules for Aéroport d'Ivujivik (YIK)
Drone operations should not be conducted within the operational area of Ivujivik Airport due to essential northern air transport activity and frequent low-visibility aircraft operations.
Ivujivik Airport (CYIK) is a public aerodrome located in the northernmost community of Québec, in Nunavik. It serves as a critical infrastructure point for passenger transport, cargo delivery, and emergency medical evacuation services, where aviation is the primary year-round link to the outside world.
The airport features a gravel runway and operates under challenging Arctic and sub-Arctic weather conditions, including frequent wind, snow, and rapidly changing visibility. Aircraft operations may occur with short notice and under strict safety procedures due to the remote environment.
Transport Canada guidance requires drone pilots to avoid any operation that could interfere with manned aircraft near aerodromes. In remote northern regions like Ivujivik, even brief drone activity near approach paths or runway areas can create serious risks due to limited maneuvering options for aircraft.
For these reasons, drone activity should remain entirely outside the airport operational environment unless explicit authorization is granted.
