The airspace surrounding Tubarão Airport (SBBK) is regulated to protect regional, executive, and medical aviation traffic in southern Santa Catarina. Because the airfield is located near major transport corridors like the BR-101 highway, industrial zones, and expanding urban neighborhoods, strict coordination is required to ensure that low-altitude drone flights do not conflict with light aircraft or helicopters using the facility.

Regulatory Framework: All unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations in the region must comply with standards set by DECEA, ANAC, and ANATEL to maintain local airspace safety.

Flight Authorization: Even though it is a regional airfield, operating a drone within its buffer zones or along its approach corridors requires mandatory advance planning and approval through the official SARPAS system.

Geofencing Controls: Commercial drone manufacturers include the Tubarão airfield in their GPS Geofencing databases. The system automatically enforces Restricted Zones (Red Zones) or Warning Zones over the immediate runway surroundings and nearby neighborhoods, limiting or completely locking drone operations without proper unlock codes.

Legal Penalties: Flying a drone illegally near the airfield perimeter is a federal offense under Article 261 of the Brazilian Penal Code (endangering air transport safety). Violators are subject to heavy financial fines, equipment confiscation, and criminal prosecution.
