You can legally fly your drone at Morro da Igreja, as the airspace is open for responsible use. To fly safely, you must obtain your visitor permit from ICMBio, register your drone with ANAC/ANATEL, log your flight path on the SARPAS system, stay completely clear of the military installation at the summit, and avoid fly

The airspace over Morro da Igreja, situated within the São Joaquim National Park, is open to responsible drone flight operations under strict safety and ecological guidelines. As a high-altitude destination famous for record-breaking low temperatures and panoramic mountain vistas, it offers an exceptional landscape for legal aerial photography. Because it functions as a protected conservation area and hosts a military air traffic control radar, operations must be strictly managed.

Regulatory Framework & Permissions: Drone operations are permitted for recreational and landscape capturing. All flights must be formally requested and logged through the SARPAS portal, and pilots must ensure their equipment is registered under ANAC and ANATEL guidelines.

Flight Authorization & Access: While the general airspace allows flight, you must coordinate your physical presence in the area. Access to the summit requires an official permit via the Autorização para visitar o Morro da Igreja office or through the official ICMBio booking system at the Acesso ao Morro da Igreja portal.

Geofencing & Weather Conditions: The coordinates around the Mirante Morro da Igreja and the Miradouro Morro da Igreja are not permanently blocked by manufacturer-level Red Zones, meaning your drone will unlock and take off. However, pilots must be extremely cautious of intense mountain winds and sudden cloud blankets (viração) that can rapidly compromise battery life and aircraft visual line of sight.

Environmental & Military Restrictions: To keep your flight legal, drones must never hover over or capture images of the active CINDACTA military detachment located at the peak. Additionally, operators must maintain a safe distance from tourist viewing decks and strictly avoid disturbing local wildlife nesting in the surrounding cliffs.

Legal Penalties: Flying a drone recklessly near the military installations, harassing fauna, or operating without SARPAS clearance will result in immediate flight termination by park authorities. Violations face equipment seizure, environmental fines, and prosecution under Article 261 of the Brazilian Penal Code for endangering airspace safety.
