Drone Rules for Aeroporto de Canela - SSCN/CEL
Critical No-Fly Zone covering Canela Airport (SSCN). All unauthorized drone flights are strictly prohibited within this airspace to eliminate collision risks with regional executive aircraft, intense helicopter sightseeing tours, and emergency medical flights. Only exceptional operations with explicit DECEA.
Canela Airport (SSCN) is a strategically important regional airfield located in the Serra Gaúcha mountain region of Rio Grande do Sul, directly serving the highly popular tourist destinations of Canela and Gramado. While it does not host heavy commercial airliner traffic, it handles an exceptionally high volume of general aviation, including private corporate turboprops, executive helicopters, and constant panoramic sightseeing flights operating under Visual Flight Rules (VFR).
The airport is embedded in a complex terrain environment and sits immediately adjacent to major tourist infrastructure and urban areas. Because aircraft and helicopters operate continuously at low altitudes for sightseeing, departures, and landings, the airspace is highly active and sensitive. Any uncoordinated drone activity creates an immediate, severe hazard of a mid-air collision. Consequently, spontaneous or recreational drone flights within the airfield perimeter or its active VFR flight paths are completely banned under federal law (Brazilian Penal Code, Art. 261).
Regulatory Authorities: DECEA, ANAC, and the Government of the State of Rio Grande do Sul.
Primary Framework: ICA 100-40 (DECEA) and Article 261 of the Brazilian Penal Code.
Flight Planning Portal: Operational safety grids, specific local VFR traffic paths, and airspace restrictions are managed via SARPAS NG and Aisweb.
