Summary You can fly your drone at Fortaleza Canyon, as the airspace is open for operations under standard safety regulations. To ensure a legal and safe flight, you must have your drone registered with ANAC/ANATEL, request clearance via the SARPAS system, maintain a safe distance from visitors, and strictly avoid disturbing th

The airspace over the breathtaking Fortaleza Canyon is open to drone flight operations under specific eco-tourism and safety conditions. As one of the largest canyons in Brazil, featuring towering basaltic walls and frequent low-cloud formations, it offers incredible aerial filming opportunities. However, because it is located within a protected National Park, pilots must balance their flight plans with strict environmental and altitude parameters.

Regulatory Framework & Permissions: Drone flights are allowed for recreational and commercial purposes, provided the operator strictly follows DECEA (ICA 100-40) guidelines and has the equipment properly registered with ANAC (S机构T) and ANATEL.

Flight Authorization & Coordination: While the surrounding airspace allows flight, pilots must register their operations via the SARPAS portal. For professional, commercial, or media productions that require flying closer to infrastructure or specific eco-zones, an advance authorization or notification with the park administration (Urbia / ICMBio) is highly recommended or mandatory.

Geofencing & Natural Conditions: The canyon is not fully blocked by permanent safety Red Zones in commercial drone firmware, meaning your drone will take off normally. However, the built-in GPS firmware will enforce standard altitude limits. Pilots must be extremely cautious with strong local wind currents (vento encanado) and sudden fog (viração), which can quickly compromise aircraft stability.

Environmental Restrictions: Even though you can fly, it is strictly prohibited to harass, chase, or disturb the local wildlife (such as birds of prey that nest in the canyon walls). Drone operations must also respect the privacy and safety of tourists walking along the legal trails, like the Mirante and Pedra do Segredo paths.

Legal Penalties: Violating safety distances from visitors or causing environmental disturbance to the local fauna can result in immediate intervention by park rangers, equipment apprehension, and fines under federal environmental protection laws and Article 261 of the Brazilian Penal Code if aviation safety is put at risk.
