Gaudêncio Machado Ramos Airport (SSAL) is a regional airfield located in Alegrete, in the western frontier region of Rio Grande do Sul. The airport primarily serves as a logistical and emergency hub for the municipality and the surrounding rural areas, accommodating private corporate aircraft, government transport, and critical aeromedical evacuation missions. Additionally, given the region's heavy reliance on large-scale rice farming and livestock, the surrounding airspace sees frequent, low-altitude operations from agricultural spraying aircraft. Because aircraft navigate visual approaches and departures at low altitudes directly over the surrounding fields, highways, and urban fringes, uncoordinated drone activity creates an immediate threat to flight safety. Spontaneous or recreational drone flights within the airfield perimeter or its active traffic patterns are completely banned under federal law (Brazilian Penal Code, Art. 261). Regulatory Authorities: DECEA, ANAC, and the Municipal Administration of Alegrete. Primary Framework: ICA 100-40 (DECEA) and Article 261 of the Brazilian Penal Code. Flight Planning Portal: Operational safety grids and airspace restrictions are managed via SARPAS NG and Aisweb.
