The airspace over and surrounding the Palácio das Laranjeiras (Rio de Janeiro, RJ) is classified as a strictly restricted State Security, Executive Residence, and Critical Urban Airspace Zone. Civilian drone flights are completely banned over the palace grounds and its immediate perimeter to ensure the safety.
The Palácio das Laranjeiras, located in the Laranjeiras neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, is the official residence of the Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro. This historic, high-security mansion is surrounded by vast private parklands and acts as a primary hosting venue for state receptions and high-level political summits.
Operating an unauthorized civilian drone near this executive estate is treated as a major security breach due to two critical risk factors:
Executive Protection: The complex is guarded 24/7 by the state's Military Police (Polícia Militar) and institutional security teams to prevent illegal surveillance, privacy invasion, or airborne tactical threats against the Governor's family and visiting dignitaries.
Extreme Helipad and Airspace Activity: The palace sits in a highly congested low-altitude urban air corridor. It features an active helipad frequently used by government, police, and medical aircraft. Furthermore, it operates in close geographical proximity to the strict approach cones of Santos Dumont Airport (SDU), meaning any uncoordinated drone flight poses an immediate mid-air collision hazard.
The perimeter is monitored continuously. Any recreational or unapproved drone detected over the palace or its surrounding gates will be targeted by electronic signal neutralization or physical countermeasures. The equipment will be seized, and the operator will be detained and handed over to the authorities to face severe administrative fines and federal criminal charges for endangering national airspace and violating institutional security boundaries.
