Recreational and commercial drone flights are permitted without prior DECEA coordination, provided the operation remains at or below 40 meters (130 feet) above ground level, maintains a safe distance from non-consenting crowds, and strictly respects local privacy and weather conditions.

Ipanema Beach, one of Brazil's most iconic coastal landmarks, offers a spectacular landscape for aerial photography. Because it sits outside the immediate critical no-fly buffers of nearby airports like Santos Dumont (SDU), drone operators can utilize the standard "Access System for Unmanned Aircraft" rules. Under these guidelines, flights under 40 meters do not require formal airspace slot allocation, making it an excellent location for visiting pilots.

However, because Ipanema Beach is a highly frequented public area, drone pilots must strictly adhere to ANAC and DECEA safety protocols to prevent accidents. Pilots must maintain a horizontal safety buffer of at least 30 meters (100 feet) from individuals who have not explicitly consented to the flight. Flying directly over dense crowds on the sand or over nearby coastal roadways (such as Avenida Vieira Souto) is prohibited. Furthermore, pilots should remain vigilant regarding sudden ocean wind gusts and local helicopter corridors that frequently transit along the coastline.
