Drone Rules for Barreirinhas Municipal Airport
Critical No-Fly Zone covering Barreirinhas Airport (SSRS). All unauthorized drone flights are strictly prohibited within this airspace to eliminate collision risks with scheduled regional commercial flights, intense tourist charter aviation, and scenic helicopter tours.
Barreirinhas Airport (SSRS) is located in the state of Maranhão and serves as the primary aviation gateway to the famous Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. The airport handles a mix of scheduled regional commercial flights, private executive aircraft, and an exceptionally high volume of tourist charter flights and light aircraft conducting panoramic scenic tours over the dunes and coastline.
Because the airfield is situated near the urban perimeter, local highways, and highly active ecotourism corridors, the surrounding airspace experiences constant low-altitude traffic operating under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). Due to the high frequency of these tourist flights and changing weather conditions, uncoordinated drone activity in this vicinity poses an immediate, critical threat to flight safety. Spontaneous or recreational drone flights within the airfield perimeter or its active traffic patterns are completely banned under federal law (Brazilian Penal Code, Art. 261).
Regulatory Authorities: DECEA, ANAC, and the Government of the State of Maranhão.
