Air advisory Fly with caution Last updated: Jun 6, 2026

Gympie Aerodrome is an uncontrolled airport, meaning that flights are allowed, and should be done with caution.

It is a common misconception that you can't fly near small, untowered landing strips, but you are actually completely allowed to fly within 5.5 km of them. The trick to a successful flight is just practicing smart, defensive flying. Keep your ears open for engine noises, and if a piloted helicopter or plane shows up, simply bring your drone down until they pass.
