Hospital Heliport Proximity: This road is close to the South County Hospital Heliport. Under FAA rules, you must never interfere with low-flying medical helicopters. You must yield the right-of-way and land immediately if you hear a helicopter approaching. Local Park Restrictions: Part of this road borders local municipal and residential conservation areas. The town of South Kingstown regulates drone takeoffs from public parks; you must not launch from town-owned recreation property without local authorization. Private Property Lines: Much of this road is lined with private residential homes. While the FAA allows you to fly through the airspace above private land under 400 feet, hovering low over backyards can violate local privacy, stalking, or voyeurism laws. Always keep your drone within your visual line of sight.

Airport Property Rules: You are never permitted to launch, land, or operate a drone from within the perimeter of an active airport runway or tarmac. Doing so can lead to massive federal fines and the confiscation of your equipment. Severe Hazard to Aircraft: Drones pose a catastrophic risk to incoming and departing planes, especially at small airports like Block Island where planes fly at very low altitudes during takeoff and landing. 🗺️ How to Fly Legally Near the Airport If you want to fly a drone in the areas surrounding the airport (such as nearby beaches or roads), you must secure legal permission:Check Airspace Class: Block Island State Airport sits in uncontrolled Class G airspace, but the immediate flight paths require extreme caution. Use Airspace Mapping Apps: Always download and check an official FAA-approved application like Aloft Air Control or OpenSky before turning your drone on. These apps use your GPS location to display real-time temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) and highlight forbidden buffer zones.Yield Right-of-Way: If you are operating legally outside the airport boundary, you must instantly yield the right-of-way to any traditional aircraft. Land your drone immediately if you hear a plane or helicopter approaching. Rhode Island Requirements: Ensure you have completed the mandatory FAA TRUST Test if you are a hobbyist, or hold a Part 107 certificate if flying commercially. Your drone must also be registered with the FAA if it weighs over 250 grams. If you are planning a trip to the island, I can provide details on how to take the FAA TRUST test or recommend scenic, legal spots on Block Island away from the airport flight paths.

Flew here once and got kicked out I had to pay a fine 4 $200. LAANC Authorization Required: You cannot fly without automated airspace approval. Use an FAA-approved app like Aloft or Airspace Link to request immediate LAANC clearance before spinning up your props. Altitude Limits: Your maximum flying height will be strictly capped well below the standard 400 feet. Check your drone app for the exact grid ceiling at the field. Never Interfere with Planes: Heinz Field offers clear views of landing and departing planes. Yield right-of-way immediately to all manned aircraft

This spot is amazing it is pretty big but there are trees in some spots. If your drone has a camera you can get some really good footage of the lake.
